Amira Yasmin is a young woman originally from Indonesia, who moved to Berlin with her family at the age of 13. While her family moved back to Indonesia in 2018, she stayed in Germany where she graduated from High School in 2020 and is currently studying International Business at Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin. She has managed to stay connect to her roots, both through her father’s family business and the connection to the Indonesian Students’ Association Alliance Berlin. Food plays a significant role for her in maintain her connection with her cultural heritage and uses it as a tool to connect with the expatriate community. She believes that food brings so many passionate conversations to the table in which brings a sense of familiarity and home. It’s also a connection to her childhood, and helps to connect her to her identity through taste memory. Food plays a vital role in maintaining her connection to her Indonesian roots.
