Takota Coen
Organic Farmer and Co-owner of Coen Farm
Takota is a second generation organic farmer and co-owner of Coen Farm, a 100-hectare (250-acre) award-winning farm in central Alberta that produces nutrient-dense milk-fed pork, grass-fed beef, pasture-raised eggs, and forest-garden fruits. His family’s commitment to increasing the biodiversity of their land and the nutrient density of the food they produce since 1988 has garnered international recognition and numerous environmental awards.
In addition to his ongoing farming experiments, Takota regularly engages with famers, ranchers, and acreage owners across Canada and around the world via his public speaking, farm tours, workshops, private consulting, and online workshops. His life mission is to help stewards everywhere to design their properties for healthier land, healthier profits, and the time to enjoy both.
He currently holds a Permaculture Design Certificate from the Permaculture Research Institute, a Holistic Management Certificate from Holistic Management International, and a Red Seal Journeyman Certificate for Carpentry. His commitment to lifelong learning spans into many other domains beyond agriculture, such as traditional culinary practices, appropriate technology, herbal medicine, shamanism, philosophy, and music.
